A DoorWorks hinged-door enclosure is the biggest upgrade you can make for cool-weather riding. As fall temperatures drop, three small add-ons make it even better: one for the gap around the windshield, one for the seams where the doors meet the frame, and one that protects the doors themselves on a windy day. Here is how to upgrade your DoorWorks hinged-door enclosure before the cold weather sets in.
1. Seal the windshield gap with a WindSeal Kit
Most of the cold air in an enclosed cart doesn't come through the fabric. It comes around the windshield, where the enclosure meets the glass. Once the cart is moving, that small gap becomes a steady draft across your hands and lap.
The WindSeal Kit fits snug above and below the windshield to stop drafts and cold air from getting through. Each kit is cut for a specific cart model, so it fits that cart instead of being a one-size strip. It installs quickly and comes in Sunbrella Jet Black, Linen, Wheat and Forest Green, plus Black, Tan and White vinyl to match your enclosure. $89.
It's the single most popular add-on our enclosure customers buy, and the one we'd add first.
2. Close the door seams with rubber weather stripping
Hinged doors need a little clearance to open and close. That clearance is also where wind and rain get in. Rubber Weather Stripping closes it: Velcro-backed rubber strips seal the gap between the door frames and the door posts, creating a water and air barrier. The strips are 6 feet long and come off easily when you want them out. $32.
If your cart sits outside, or you ride in rain as often as cold, this is the cheapest fix on the list.
3. Protect your doors on windy days with DoorGuards
Fall wind does more than chill you. If a hinged door is left unlatched in high wind, it can be pushed against the rear tire. The tire then rubs the fabric and leaves a mark. DoorGuards snap onto the bottom of each door, no tools needed, and keep the fabric off the tire. Each order is a matched pair, one for each side. $35.
4. Warm the one thing you touch the whole ride
Sealing the cart keeps the cold out. Your hands are still on a cold steering wheel. The RENO Heated Steering Wheel replaces your stock wheel with a heated leather grip and an LED control knob. A built-in vibration sensor turns the heat on and off with the cart. It installs in about an hour and carries a 1-year warranty. $349 with hub for Club Car, EZGO, Yamaha and Cushman; $329 for Evolution, Denago, EPIC, ICON, DACH and AdvancedEV, which bolt on with no hub.
Don't have an enclosure yet?
Start with the enclosure, then add the upgrades. The DoorWorks 2-Passenger Hinged Door Enclosure is our best seller and starts at $1,079. If you'd rather slide panels than swing doors, the DoorWorks Sunbrella Track-Style Enclosure starts at $679 for 2-passenger roofs. 4- and 6-passenger versions are available for extended roofs. DoorWorks enclosures carry a 1-year warranty.
